In 1983, Ochoco Lumber Company formed a wholly owned subsidiary, Malheur Lumber Company as it began the sawmill construction in John Day, Oregon.
Located 120 miles east of Prineville, this state of the art manufacturing facility cuts quality grade pine logs, and currently employs 90 individuals in both production and management. Through the years we have secured the industry position as a reliable company who continually produces quality lumber. Much of our lumber is shipped to secondary manufacturers who produce various products including doors, windows, moldings, cabinets and furniture which are primarily used in the building and remodeling industry.
Malheur consistently reviews and implements manufacturing equipment upgrades along with exploring opportunities in renewable energy use. This type of management has allowed us to take advantage of new technologies and to respond to the changing supply issues which continually affect the lumber industry. With the strength of our core management and key employees we have designed, constructed and implemented various projects that have allowed us to enhance our recovery of prior lost fiber, increase production and maintain employment in rural areas.
